The opening of the exhibition “The Church – a storage of family and ancestral memory” within the framework of the third international conference “Traditional values – modern challenges”

On March 22, 2018, the Manuscript Library of Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin hosted the opening of an exhibition of “The Church – a storage of family and ancestral memory”, archival original documents and paintings. The submitted documents complemented the topics of the conference entitled “Traditional values ​​- modern challenges”.

The archive material presented at the exhibition was meaningful. Church metric books, petitions for marriage permits, registers of births, marriages, and death certificates of Armenian churches in Russia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan, and of Russian churches in Armenian, as well as the Russian Emperor’s issued decree on the creation of church metric books and the new order of their management. Among presented materials there were also church metric books of the Armenian Church of St. Petersburg / which registered the death of General Alexander Alexandryan Aghasi Bek Avsharyan and Surb Khach (the Holy Cross) Church in Moscow registered the death of Khachatur Hovakim Lazaryan, the internal counselor of the Lazarian Seminary, and the trustee of the Armenian Churches of St. Petersburg and Moscow/, as well as the birth register of the Surb Khach (the Holy Cross) Armenian Church in Akhalkalaki where the birth of Hovhannes Kajaznuni, the Prime Minister of the First Republic of Armenia was registered /,  and many other interesting documents.

After that, the guests of the event took part in the third international conference “Traditional values ​​- modern challenges”. A. Safaryan, the President of “Integration and Development” NGO and a political commentator greeted the guests at the opening. I. Volinkin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Armenia, H. Babukhanyan and K. Avagyan, deputies of the National Assembly of the RA, Father Markos Mangasaryan, Director of the Social Office of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, Father Arsen Saroyan, Director of the Administration of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, Hieromonk Stephan /Igusnov/, the Inter-Christian Relations Department Secretary of the Moscow Patriarchate, Bishop and Archbishop Andrey (VATS), of Moscow and the All-Russian Patriarchal Territory in Gyumri, the leading editor of the official website of the Russian Orthodox Church, Патриархиа.ru, Deacon D. Hasratyan, a researcher of the Institute of Archeology of the “History of the Republic of North Ossetia and Alania”, and S. Rybinski, the head of the “Science and culture” center of Russia.

The materials and the reports of the conference participants presented at the exhibition were diverse, interesting, and instructive for both the visitors and the younger generation.
